Holiday: Bognor Regis 2012

After last years trip to Bognor, it worked so well for us we decided to go back to the same apartment for a holiday this year as well.   Although we’re only down for 8 days, as with last year I will be having to “work from home” 3 days.

Friday 6th July

Hoorah, first day of the holiday… so had breakfast in bed, up in time for elevenses, then had lunch in preparation for our journey…

Left for Bognor via Petworth for tea and cake stop.  Got to Bognor a bit early, so had walk as warm and bright.

Although we were pretty happy with the apartment last year, this year it has a new shower which was great and also a media server with lots of films on it…. as it turned out this was very useful.

Went to Morrisons to stock up on grub and beer, unpacked, then popped out for dinner which had to be fish & chips as we were by the sea Smile

Went to QEII pub for a quick drink. (About 50 yards away!) before returning to the apartment

Saturday 7th July

Woke up to a bright’ish day. Lynn got us breakfast in bed.   Out at 10am into windy drizzle, so headed to a cafe for our cup of tea.

Walked up high street as having a ‘shopping day’ today. Went back to flat for lunch. Did rest of high street, then had nice warm cup of coffee in pub.

Decided to walk to Aldwick, weather turning wet, windy and wild, so stopped for a drink in pub and a game of pool. Then next door to the ‘Navigator’ for nice meal.

Just had room for a beer at QEII where there was a D.J.

Sunday 8th July

Had breakfast in bed, but out of bed in time for elevenses. Quick walk to get some air and some baked beans for lunch, as was feeling quite full and bloated from the dining and drinking yesterday.

Surprisingly warm and sunny, sat on beach for 10 minutes, until the clouds came over.

Back to flat for lunch and to watch the British Grand Prix on TV.

Went to the local carnival, heavy rain shower but mostly sunny. After carnival had an ice cream, then cup of tea. We walked to Hotham Park.

Back to the flat, looked up what was on the cinema, but decided to watch ‘Midnight in Paris’ (rom com) instead!

Monday 9th July

Lynn got us breakfast in bed. Cloudy but warm and no rain forecast so off to Chichester for the day, leaving about 10.30am.

Walked to the canal first, as in previous visits, after shopping we have been too worn out to be bothered.

IMG_0930

Walked through the city to the North to get to ‘The Bell’ for a well earned rest and lovely lunch.

IMG_0933

Had walk along city wall to West Gate. Walked around shops again before another rest and a cup of tea and (cake - Mike only!)   Left around 5pm after a full day of shopping!!

Been reasonably bright all day, got back to Bognor and it was very sunny and warm!

Had tea, then stroll along promenade in wind and sun.  Spent 60p on pier amusements.

Watched another film ‘Friends with benefits’ (rom com) on tv as tired after all the shenanigans of the day

Tuesday 10th July

Lynn got breakfast in bed at 8.30am.

Looked sunny when first woke up, but when up and ready to go out at 10.15am, it was raining by now.

Walked along seafront, breezy but bright, had tea break and cookie at the ‘Lobster Pot’.

Went inland and found ‘The Fox’ for lunch as it was pouring with rain. Lovely lunch and free pudding so was full!!

Walked to town, had a rest and cup of tea.  Bought some provisions, back to flat at 4.15pm.

Went to the Cinema and saw ‘5 Year engagement’ (another rom com), then a swift half in the pub before back to flat

Wednesday 11th July

Work day for me today, so up at 7.15am, did exercises, got Lynn breakfast in bed (for a change) then work!

IMG_0949(I’m working hard)

Planned to go out for picnic lunch. Looked sunny all morning, started raining at 11.50am. Had lunch in, then a quick walk around the block but started raining again and we got soaked!

The afternoon was a mixture of sunshine and showers. Sun came out after work so went to the ‘Regis’ for dinner, but was very windy.  Had nice meal and I ordered 2 puddings as it was 2 for £2.00, but had to eat them both as Lynn didn’t want one Smile

Had a walk around town as still very windy on the promenade, got back to the flat and watched film on tv ‘I am number four’ (this time it was a sci fi), as work tomorrow.

Thursday 12th July

Woke to beautiful blue skies and calm conditions. Tempting to work on beach but sadly not practicable.

By lunch time it was cloudy and a bit chilly but went out for our picnic on the seafront, albeit in full wet weather gear Smile   Went to our sheltered spot by the Yacht Club and had relaxing lunch looking at sea.

Back to work in the afternoon and got Lynn to type up this blog again. That kept her occupied for a while!

Work is done for the day but the rain has set in. Decide to head for Weatherspoons for dinner as it is only a 5 minute walk away.   My Steak and Ale Pie was pretty good, but Lynn didn’t enjoy her “Superfood wholewheat pesto pasta” very much…

Had to walk to top of town, through park to seafront and got soaked. Back to room to watch a film ‘Inception’ (that’s 3 rom coms to 2 SciFi  this week, so not too bad a ratio)

Friday 13th July

Up for work as normal. Again a lovely sunny morning. Turned cloudy and very windy by lunchtime, but pretty warm and bright so had lunch on the promenade again.

After work still bright and sunny Smile  Headed out to ‘Lobster Pot’, had nice meal and then a long stroll back to apartment

Saturday 14th July

Woke up at 7.30am, got up. Left the apartment at 9.15am got home at 10.30am (only took 1½ hours, missed all the Farnborough Airshow traffic). Did weekly food shopping and had lunch.

Went to Hawley Fayre approximately 2.00pm for 1½ hours, I had cup of tea, sausage roll and 2 cakes as still in holiday mood Smile  It’s a bit muddy underfoot but at least it wasn’t raining…

As with last year, we thoroughly enjoyed the break down in Bognor and was able to merge some work with the holiday to get a longer break than would otherwise have been possible.   I can see us going back to Bognor again next year for a similar break (unless we buy a holiday place of our own of course !)
